Elisabetta Farina

Elisabetta Farina transforms women’s bitterly cold and rarefied fashion world into a comic-strip.

Frosty contemporary beauties, inspired by famous romantic English cartoon characters (Normann Pett’s Jane, by Hubbard, Tiffany Jones by Jenny Butterwoth and Pat Tourret), all wearing the latest designer brands and accessories: stiletto sandals, bags and trendy jewels. Gold, metal decorations and strass are created using a texture of coloured LED lamps.

Elisabetta Farina’s electric paintings star heroines solely enthralled by their looks. Very proud of their frosty and cold beauty, these liminal creatures seem to deeply desire a transformation - to become advertising which cannot be obscured.

As Elisabetta’s mannequins intentionally and felicitously demonstrate, I sing the body electric, is a hymn to its  forerunners of the body electric, from Walt Whitman to Ray Bradbury and the Weather Report.

Does the gown make the  friar?
This is the question that often pops up in my head when looking at Elisabetta Farina’s work.
Her women depict today’s ideal woman - a perfectly integrated woman, both in society and space,  so confident of herself and aware of it.

There are no icons here. Details help to dispel the idea of myth and of icons, conferring personality as well as style to the subject that comes to “life”, is up-to-date, and has an expression which seems to interact with spectators, to strike them . The LED lights makes fashion accessories, shoes, bags and jewels resplend. They radiate life to the frosty cold beauty of the models transforming them from  “a woman-type” to a contemporary woman. Sheis no longer just an object, “something” to admire but is, above all, a human being.
